Please understand that today was a special day for some of us outside of the fact that there was an insurrection on this date as well.
However, I will not stop celebrating 'Old Christmas' just because others decided to do something bad on the same date.

On the North Carolina Outer Banks, this is a celebration that has been going on for a very, very long time. The feasting on 'Old Christmas' eve, then fasting during the day. (I cannot do that anymore, thanks to a messed up stomach, but you get the idea.)
There is also dancing, presents, and a visit from 'Old Buck'.
I hope everyone has a blessed Twelfth Night, aka: Epiphany, aka: Old Christmas today!

(11,546 posts)I just wish I had some fresh oysters and crab last night. That was the usual 'main course' at the gatherings I went to. I remember how they would have large tables and they would just dump the piles of shrimp, crab, scallops and oysters in the middle and every one would just help themselves.
MAN, was that good stuff! I would be moaning by the time I finished. Since we were not supposed to eat today at all, that feast was integral to surviving till midnight tonight. (The fridges that would get raided after midnight on this night was so funny to me. Once I hit adulthood, I had to laugh as we would sit watching the clock while pretending that we were not.)

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
