Brother, and my sister got one too. Dad put up a little chicken wire in the backyard, and I watched them lose their color and turn white. Then one day when we were all in school, they all escaped.

one Easter for their 3 sons. They lived on 10 acres outside of town. I was a city kid, but that uncle was my godfather and I spent 2 weeks at their home every summer when school was out.

As the ducks grew, they had free range of the property. Then, one summer day while I was at their home for my usual 2 weeks, they decided to "harvest" the ducks. Both my aunt and uncle had grown up on farms where they had occasionally killed a chicken for dinner.

I was about 9 years old. They asked me to help them round up the ducks into a corner of their lot so they could grab them. When one of the ducks got close to the corner, I ran forward and shooed it away to save its life. My uncle sent me indoors. I heard the squawking when they were caught and then the silence.

Next day at dinner, they tried to pass off the duck to me as chicken but I refused to touch it. I told them that I knew what the "chicken" was. I ate mashed potatoes with butter (no gravy) and veggies. .

My uncle said that my family was not vegetarian and I ate meat at home, so what was the problem? I told him that I would not eat something that I had personally known. He dropped the subject.

I was about 9 before I realized rabbits had long ears. My mom would eat the ears off the chocolate bunnies and carefully re-wrap them so no one could tell.

I put them inside plastic easter eggs. So there's an egg in the egg. I hope that will appeal to a 4-year-old's sense of humor!

...marshmallow eggs.

The bunny was always last.

My father would give my grandmother the money to put the Easter Baskets together.

We'd stop at my Grandmother's house after church, pick her up, and she'd bring the baskets.

Maybe the delay of having to sit through church had something to do with me becoming an atheist. (Just kidding...other things were involved.)
