Would you be too distressed if your airliner lost all four engines?

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress."

The biggest understatement ever award goes to ....

In this week's episode of QI, filmed in 2023, we were lucky enough to have the truly heroic Captain Eric Moody in the studio. Sadly, Eric passed away last month. Our thoughts are with Eric's friends and family.

One definitely needs to read the full true story on Wikipedia. Search for British Airways flight 009.

Just don't do it before taking a flight.

Reading the Wikipedia article, it all happened in about 20 minutes (about 8:40p.m. to 9:00p.m. local time). I don't think anybody had time to panic!
Kinda sad it took the government of Indonesia another two weeks and another airplane having the same issue for them to close the airspace around the volcano and create a new safer route for flights to get around it.
