In 1966 when the song came out I was driving a 1959 TR-3 that was black with a black interior and a black top.

That was my song.

In November of that year I ordered a brand new special order 1967 TR4-A with an overdrive 4 speed transmission that gave me 7 forward gears, independent rear suspension, dual SU carburetor worth 4 extra horsepower...and a black exterior, black interior and a black convertible top.

I've loved LOUD music my entire life. A little bit less now that I'm old (and don't drink much), but many people my age say I'm blasting the tunes when to me it's normal listening volume.

ATM I'm sitting in the middle of a 4.1 system that can hit you like you're standing next to a speaker in a NYC nightclub at 11:50pm on New Years Eve, but sounds many times better.

Early songs I remember blasting when I was like 7-8 years old: Honky Cat + All of Side 1 of Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. A Little Help From My Friends. Smackwater Jack. Down by the Lazy River. And pretty much all Creedence songs.

They helped get me through my teenage years.

I recall when I switched from rock centered to jazz centered my father coming into my room to say that he was surprised by the change in my tastes. He was shocked a bit by Ralph Towner, which struck him as beautiful, a rare cases of agreement on cultural issues.

I loved my father but did so in the context of our many disagreements, some of which were profound.

It happened after I briefly moved home on one of my return adventures from California.

The horn section was so tight it was like 1 guy playing 3 horns. The drummer was a killer, too.
It was CHEAP, as well. I think I paid $12 in around 2005 or so.

We were at the back row of seats..still close enough to see and hear perfectly.
The 7 year old ska danced back and forth along the walk way.
He knew all the songs and loved the experience.
It was a truly magical night.

elope to WV to get married. We blasted this 8 track down to WV, I will always remember the Green VW with the windows open and singing this song. Funny how music can bring back memories. Life sometimes doesn't fit the song lyrics. When we got from Pittsburgh to Wheeling. we decided to wait. Glad I did as he was just as abusive as my family. But I will always remember the song in the VW , windows open on a hot summer evening.
