Get ready for this!
I was a registered republican up until now. I refuse to vote for the GOP in its current state, until it meets mine, and many other completely reasonable republicans views! ask me anything!

(9,933 posts)When I was little I remember talk of not wanting to regulate morality, supporting a women's right to choose, etc.
Welcome!
One minor point. Most LGBT do not like when you refer to being gay as a "choice". Because evidence is that it is not a choice, but biology. And, if it is a "choice", then some religious nuts can call it a "sinful choice". (Okay, religious nuts will say what they say regardless of facts, but fewer people pay attention when the facts are absolutely against them).
Myself, not being LGBT, always thought (before), as you apparently do, that it was a choice - a perfectly valid and none-of-my-business choice; but then after hanging around here I understand why it is important to recognize that it generally is not a choice, but rather how people are born. (I still think that in some cases it might be a choice, but there's nothing wrong with it either way, so whatever.)
Not to be lecturing or anything, just wanted to let you know before you ruffle any feathers unintentionally on this topic.

(31 posts)As i see it in my time in the private sector (i own a small restaurant) with the lower taxes thanks to W's tax cuts, i was able to employ 7 more people, who in turn could then afford a better health coverage, without me having to pay for it, and not being able to hire at all. Part of the iraq war i supported. I didnt like how it was handled, they caused as much damage as they did good. Saddam needed to be removed, he was killing millions of his people. But i didnt like how it was handled. As the most powerful country in the world, i think it falls on us to atleast try to keep the peace in the world, getting rid of saddam would have helped, but killing innocent iraqi citizens was not what i supported.

(31 posts)Going to war for a lie is wrong. There were no Wmds in iraq, nor did it seem he had any, for that reason i wish we had not gone into iraq, or killed its civilians. If the reason was to get rid of saddam because there were mass graves filled with thousands of civilians, and they didnt just bomb the country, i would still support it.

Foreign policy? Start a war with a country that had nothing to do with 9.11!
We not only killed and maimed countless Iragi men, women and children. We lost our service members by the thousands! This is the "bit of foreign policy that you supported." This was a revenge war for Bush Jr for Bush Sr.Oh and for the rest of the Chicken Hawks...it was about the oil. Nice!

You say the gop of old represented sound fiscal policies? Trickle-down ... really? It's been discredited by just about every non-gop "think tankish" economist out there.
It's not just the gop's social policies that should be having you re-thinking the gop; but rather, its refusal to allow facts to inform policy.

(2 posts)First off I am glad that you finally started to see that the restaurant business would fail under republicans agenda good for you.I realize that you stated that anyone could ask you anything but that isn't the way it works. For one thing I generally don't trust people that I do not know. For all I know you could just be sort of a frustrated small business owner that still can't believe that Romney lost. But as a restaurant owner I know you should be smart enough to not broadcast supporting either party because you just need to feed people and make some money without upsetting people that support one party or the other. But you should know that as this country becomes more service sector/retail job oriented instead of having the proper balance of the better paying and better tax revenue generating manufacturing jobs, that it will only become more and more difficult to make a living attempting to run a small restaurant. It is good that your employees make most of their money from tips and you will probably be exempt from boycotts like we have seen at Pappa Johns Pizza as well as others that try and cut their employees hours to circumvent the health care law.But if you are not a troll and really have seen the light good luck to you in 2113.
