The current situation was explained some time ago.
It's almost like this is nothing new and we have Karl Marx to explain it very clearly.
Marxism 101: How Capitalism is Killing Itself with Dr. Richard Wolff
I'm sure this video has been posted before, but it does help shine a light on 2021. Smart guy, that Karl Marx.

(6,088 posts)I have bookmarked to study more. Very good talking points for why socialism makes sense, and counterarguments to the right's hysteria about it. .
When people spread fear about socialism, they are choosing some time point in a systems evolution as evidence of failure, instead of seeing the bumps and dips of systems undergoing constant change. Economies are complex and adaptive systems, never static.
Their arguments are like saying that automobiles failed because they weren't as good in 1916 as today's cars.
Thanks again for posting this. Will check out more in your group.

(15,325 posts)"Marxism is the roots of communism and its new name, social democrats, and fascism, (social corporatism). If we count the number of people who died in the name of ____ism. It is easy to see that Marxism has killed more people than all other philosophies and theologies combined."
Marxism basically means a system of classless society in which the wealth of the state are said to be distributed equally and all the administrative power of the state are vested in the working class people.
The Political System of Marxism is composed of a single political Party and Single ideology which runs all the affairs of the state through its multiple organization.
The cheif executive or representative of the state are elected from within that single party. And No alternative Political thought and political parties are allowed to exercised any activities.
The thoughts of Marxism was for formulated by Karl marx and Socialist Friedrich Engels. and later on by Vladimir ilyich Lenin and Mao Zedong.
As of today No finest example of Marxism, like of the Soviet Union can be found.
However, People's Republic of China and Cuba can be said as the example of Marxist state.
That's your vision of Democracy. Of the future of America?
"Burn it All Down" ! Burn down to the core, our American Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc.. because apparantly someone's been normalizing & selling it, & sold it with the sloganeering of populism, that there's a utopia waiting just around the corner & rather fix what's tearing us apart, we'll just heave it into the bin & "Burn it all Down", because don't we all want to live in those utopian nations we'e come to envy, like Soviet Union, People's Republic of China, Cuba...
Tell me just who of the Millionares & Billionares & their global influencers will decide just how this new Socialist Communist Marxist Gov't will be run exactly?
Which one is going to sit at the top after the smoke clears & create THEIR idea of a new American Gov't?
Corrupt billionares of Librtarian & RWer Peter Thiel's Silicon Valley perhaps?
Have to ask.
Because I'll just bet whomever is shoving this out there as the ideal answer to Burning Down our Americam Democratic Republic, already has called dibs to the keys to the throne.
Everything we need to know about this dangerous suggestion, we learned from fking Shreck.

It doesnt matter what kind of utopia they promise. The dictator rules through the party. The party enforces the rule. No utopia.
My opinion.

(34,069 posts)would be my answer. With the slogan of our Founding Fathers, No taxation with out representation.
That is the way to fend off the elite. If one can not vote, they will not pay any tax. The power concentrated in the top 1% or even 10%, is what leads to revolution to find a way to combat their power, that always becomes abusive.
Our best way to slow down this abuse by the ultra wealthy would be campaign finance reform to give the real power back to the non wealthy. That is where I'd start.
Democratic Socialism or at least, much closer to Western Europe systems.

'Democratic' Socialism is a sugar pill for the reality of what no one's willing to say about what happens when our Deocratic Republic is "Burned to the ground".
You really think all those Silicon Valley hacks of RW billionare Pete Thiel's are going to step aside & say 'Sure, what a great idea! We'll just go away now".
Btw. Thiel is part of this sales pitch for the grand Utopia of Socialism, the Deal of a Lifetime

(34,069 posts)has turned out just as bad or worse. It may have started out a little more fair in Wealth of Nations, with some protections against monopolies and the concentration of wealth as proposed by Adam Smith, but has melted into Ayn Rand and the worship of greed and power.
What is the answer. It certainly is not in any "only way or no way" way of thinking. In truth the world is not black and white, it's only shades of gray.
Economic systems must adapt to a changing environment or go extinct.

(34,069 posts)So it doesnt get burned down. See, the Civil War, the end of many monarchs, French Revolution and the fall of many many governments in history. There are peaceful methods to progress. Economic justice helps the rich and poor in the long run.

(15,325 posts)Never.
I seriously doubt 'toning it down' is what those now normalizing Marxism as this new utopia really have in mind for America.
History of Marxism say otherwise.
This is rather stunning hearing about it like , sure! sounds good!

(34,069 posts)Marx as much, if not more so than Mao or Stalin. Worker owned and not state owned manufacturing is more pure Marxist. The video did a good job of pointing this out.
