It would seem ISIS presents us with an opportunity
The powers that be have had their hand at war here it all it has done is gotten worse for everyone.
It would seem that there would be some interest in allowing a more "pacifist" approach.
I'm not really talking about a bunch of people marching over a bridge and demanding fair elections from ISIS. I'm thinking more about "fighting" this battle through the State Department, with an assist from the Treasury, in cutting off the flow of money to ISIS. We could also involve the Justice department in putting people on trial who assist ISIS. We could also involve the UN and the World Court by putting various people on trial who support ISIS. We have to stop the flow of money and armaments into the whole region, and keep them out of the combatants hands.
Basically, it would be about waging some law enforcement instead of waging war. We couldn't do much worse that they warriors have accomplished over the last 5 years or so.

"No justice no peace" is the expression. We need law enforcement on an international scale. Of course the reality is that we'd need to be as willing to enforce these laws within our own boarders as we would in other countries.

(36,418 posts)The reason for that is systematic corruption and undue petrodollar influence in the West. Certainly this presents an opportunity, but so did 9/11, and nothing was done about it, except to use the attacks on the US to further the agenda of the Saudis and GCC states who now fiance ISIS.
It's a sham.

This one has the particularly attractive feature that the warriors have had their chance and failed.
The trick is to have an administration that is willing to pursue means other than war to address a wide variety of issues in and around these local civil wars, especially now that they are being driven by NGO's. And mind you, the petrodollar influence is currently on the decline, and it could potentially worsen before it gets better (if ever).
