I just watched a rebroadcast of the 60 Minutes about the billionaires.
What a pantload. Nothing more than a promotional gimmick for the uber wealthy.
Anyone who isn't outraged by a show like this isn't paying attention.
We don't need their fucking charity we need to TAX THE FUCK OUT OF THEM.

(14,459 posts)They use their money to strengthen their positions and holds on people. And people cheer that on.
I don't think it's a matter of taxing them anymore- we just need to change to a system where people come first, not profit. They can have the same opportunities and protections as anyone else, and nothing more.

(6,133 posts)The system is absolutely corrupt. Decades ago we would call out third world countries for doing what we do now. We use to know that just because it was written into the law in those countries did not make it less corrupt.

(14,459 posts)Keep in mind that the 1% want us to keep the same system, no matter what. Even if they get taxed into the ground, it's all still to their advantage- they'll still be on top and immune to the law(their real aim).
If we restructure and take that away from them, all of us could have a massive standard of living increase, and they'll have to behave. That wouldn't stop every problem, but it would be a huge start.
I started studying economics during the Bush Admin so I could understand what they were doing. I highly recommend it, as there's a lot of voodoo that gets pushed as fact from economists and pundits that is easy to see through if you know how it works.

Why do we have so many in California? Because it doesn't rain as often as it does in many other parts of the country, so it is easier to live without a roof over your head.

(23,156 posts)Go ahead and kill your TV. You will find that you can watch as much as you want via the internet.
I am seven and a half years into my third experiment with no TV. The first was rather short, about two years when I was in my late teens. Then, in my twenties, I did without TV for about seven years. In fact, I only re-acquired TV when I started dating and then living with the man I wound up married to for 25 years.
During that seven year TV-less time, a coworker was intermittently convinced that I'd be totally disconnected from the real world and wouldn't have any idea what was going on out there. So on occasion he'd question me about current events. To his astonishment, every single time I not only knew what was going on, but most of the time I could give him more information about things. For one thing, I read the local newspaper, which at the time was The Washington Post. For another, I read books. And the weekly news magazines.
These days, whenever some breaking news story happens, just go to the internet, google TV stations in that market, and chances are at least one of them will have gone to live streaming. I have watched many stories that way, and I don't feel as if I've missed anything. I will point out that it wasn't until at least six months after Michael Jackson that I learned that all of the networks had gone to wall to wall coverage of his death, as if it were something truly important. All I knew was that that night the Rachel Maddow show never showed up on the MSNBC website. And trust me, missing such coverage will improve your life. All too often I'll see complaints here about too much coverage of something trivial, and I'll suppress posting my smug comments about how I don't put up with that crap.
Trust me, if you kill your TV you won't miss anything.

(17,505 posts)We don't even need to do that. Just tax them at a moderate rate. Taxes today are way low.... even tho' the GOP seems to have sold the "We're being taxed to death!" meme.
There's so much money....if such a huge chunk didn't go to the military for useless stuff.

(113,130 posts)First thing, remove the cap on Social Security taxable income. Second, reinstitute the progressive tax structure, only this time index it to inflation and make sure the top rate is confiscatory. The only way they can avoid that top rate is to invest in domestic infrastructure and industry.
The whole rotten experiment of shifting wealth away from the producers to the parasites has been a complete failure.
