… which I paraphrase - The Soviet Union didn't fall apart from forces on the outside… It unraveled (by what could no longer be sustained) from within.

The daily viewpoint I see is a more narrow view of this. But when you travel as he does talking to as many persons as he does and are as well versed in history as he is, you see a much broader unraveling of threads in our crazy ass economic quilt.
