Postal Union: Postal Service Is Not A Union Issue, It’s A People’s Issue

The American Postal Workers Union says from the beginning of these labor contract talks that ended in an impasse May 27th, the union has worked to not only improve the working conditions for their members but to defend the postal service itself. APWU Executive Vice President Debbie Szeredy says the people’s postal service is being systematically dismantled on the way to privatization, with 320,000 jobs lost since 2000.

[Debbie Szeredy]: “They want to privatize the postal service and they’ve been tryin’ to take it apart bit by bit, which has really affected workers. But not just workers, the people in the communities – because these are the good jobs that they’re gonna want their grandkids to be able to have an opportunity to get. And it’s not our post office – the union people, it’s not the members. It’s really the people’s post office. We’d really like the public to know that we need them to stand strong with us. This isn’t a union issue, it’s a people’s issue. So these are things that we’re really fighting for in contract negotiations.”

I literally hate what congress has done to the USPS.

It is not just a jobs issue, I need the USPS for my day to day communication.

The internet is about to become unaffordable for me and many more like me. I still pay my utilities and send packages via the USPS, FFS.
