In the past few years you may have seen news stories about efforts to raise the minimum wage.
From the “Fight for Fifteen,” to various state-based campaigns, raising the minimum wage has become an important campaign for workers.
But do you know where in the United States the minimum wage started?

2:00 minute audio at link.

I cannot believe there are people that would do that job!

I saw a fascinating special on TLC, back when it was The Learning Channel & not The Trash Channel.

It was about how sky scrapers only became a reality when they figured out how to get elevators up that high. The engineers had already figured out the building specifics, but because they didn't have elevators that could reach that high, they couldn't build the buildings. Fascinating stuff.

Here is a map of the hourly wage needed in each state to pay rent on a 2 bedroom apartment:

$20 an hour for Colorado.

Listening to audiobook, the Devil in the White city. It's about a serial killer, but it's also about the building of the world's fair in Chicago in 1893. And the issues of minimum-wage, eight hour workday, time and a half for overtime and double pay on Sunday, etc. are addressed.
