There's this auction house near me that liquidates entire estates, businesses, and extra stock
from Los Angeles area companies including the movie studios.
Warner Brothers cleaned out an old closet or something and sent them a bunch of stuff including pallets of DVDs that I avoided but I scored a few cool things and am now The King of Deals:
* a lot of 26 brand new ties of Bandit from the Johnny Quest cartoon that were made exclusively for the Hanna Barbera Employee Store in 1994. They were all still their original packaging.
Got em for a buck a piece. Sold the first one on eBay today for $45.

(46,724 posts)beware underpricing, and sometimes this stuff is worth far more a few years out, so consider warehousing a few for later years if you think an item has potential.

(19,464 posts)This past weekend I bought a 1998 Cadillac Eldorado with 37,400 miles at auction for $1000. Been sitting
in a garage last 10 years after owner passed away. No body damage but will need new tires, belts & hoses
to make it roadworthy. I get that all done I'll flip it, hopefully for some extra pocket change.

(46,724 posts)They can be poorly attended, poorly promoted. I suspect many sellers would be better off with a charitable tax deduction.

(19,464 posts)Farmers paid up for just about everything except the Cadillac. What really surprised me was when the auctioneer
started on the car he mentioned everything he thought might be wrong with it from sitting 10 years plus he
never told us bidders it was low mileage. I doubted that car would bring good money at a farm auction is the
reason I went and I'm glad I did. Farmers want pickups and large 4 door cars, not luxury sports cars with
bucket seats that sit low to the ground. This widow would have been better off with a charitable tax deduction.
And we know an auctioneer would never encourage that scenario.
