A first generation iPhone fetches $63,000 at auction

https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/02/tech/first-generation-iphone-auction/index.html

New YorkCNN —
A first-generation 2007 iPhone sold for more than $63,000 in an online auction Sunday, more than 100 times its original cost. Dubbed a “first-edition” device by auctioneer LCG Auctions, the box had never been opened.

The original iPhone cost $599 and offered early Apple adopters a 3.5-inch screen with a 2-megapixel camera, plus 4 GB and 8 GB storage options, internet capabilities and iTunes. It had no app store, ran on a 2G network and was exclusive to AT&T’s network.

Bidding on this phone began online earlier this month at $2,500. All told, there were 27 bids on it, according to LCG’s website. Mark Montero, founder of LCG Auctions, told CNN that 10 buyers vied for the iPhone and the winner was “an individual from the US.”

I'll have google image of it, in case I see one at a yard sale.

like the one that sold was still sealed in original box. Fat chance of finding one like that.

Might as well just get it because you liked it. Electronics and games are hot. I’m just not interested enough in them to follow the market.
I like and buy stuff I’m interested in. Going tru my junk yesterday and found a tool to measure angles. Almost looks like a metronome, only skinny and all steel. Paid a nickel for it. On one side it says angligner the other says General Electric. Couldn’t find it on eBay, but looks like anything that says GE on it people collect. At least $30 I’m guessing. I have no idea so I’ll have to auction it on line to find out.

Sell for whatever the market will bear as they say.

They all still work! The 3G doesn’t hold a charge but plays music when it’s plugged in; I have it in an old Bose speaker/dock.

I ripped hundreds of holiday albums onto the 5. During the season, I let it play in random mode. There’s enough music on it for days of cheer!

Apple makes good and durable products. Unfortunately, as technology advances, older hardware can’t always keep up so we upgrade our gear.
