Recently back from a great visit with family in Florida. Trip was a Christmas present from my kids.

My sister and BIL moved to Lady Lake from California several months ago. The move was a horrible disaster, the movers ruined about half of their furniture. Insurance claim still being 'reviewed' by adjusters, whatever that means.

Meanwhile they are without much of their much needed furniture. I told them that I would go with them to consignment shops in the area. Hopefully we could find some nice old stuff to replace what is not even repairable. I found it very interesting and frustrating.
All 4 of the shops we went to had nothing but new furniture. New-right out of the box!

In my neck of the woods, consignment shops have a cross section of goods and most of the furniture is vintage or antique..or at least used.
No so at the places we went.

We had plans to visit a town called Mount Dora where they were told that there are antique shops. Never happened. Not only was the weather cold and rainy but my sister was sick for several days and we had to cut back our plans.

Anyone on DU know of shops 'north-ish' of Orlando where one might find some good old stuff? Much of what was ruined was antique and cannot be replaced but perhaps they can find some furniture to replace the now wrecked pieces. Any DU members who are dealers in the area have any suggestions as to where they might go? The area is new to them and they have travel limitations due to health issues.

Any suggestions would be a great help.

....and it seems like there are quite a few. So they might check out thrift shops instead of antique stores. Also, the craigslist for Orlando has a pretty good number of people selling their furniture, but that's farther than finding something right in Lady Lake.
