Animation
Related: About this forumWhat's the best full length animated film?. My opinion on this is "The Iron Giant"
Not only is the animation outstanding, but the story and over all impact is great. I saw it 5 times in the theater, and walked out happy each time. There is something wonderful too about the deep meaning of the movie. It took me a long time, even after I got the video, to recognize the meaning of very last scene where you see the Iron Giant This is a very moving and wonderful film, and I recommend this film to everyone. If you haven't seen it, it is at the library or on the internet.
Thank You for reading this,

When two girls move to the country to be near their ailing mother, they have adventures with the wondrous forest spirits who live nearby.
Grave of the Fireflies
A young boy and his little sister struggle to survive in Japan during World War II.
5 Centimeters Per Second
Told in three interconnected segments, we follow a young man named Takaki through his life as cruel winters, cold technology, and finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to test the delicate petals of love.
Spirited Away
During her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.
The Brave Little Toaster
A group of dated appliances embark on a journey to the city to find their master after being abandoned in a cabin in the woods.
(If you watch this film you can see a lot of similarities to Toy Story 3 even though the film was made in 1987)

(31,438 posts)and The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars were books by Thomas M. Disch, science fiction writer. They were supposed to be children's books, but they aren't, really. They are whimsical.
Even though I follow science fiction closely, I did not learn about these books until about six years after their publication. The first one was published in 1980. Oddly enough, an elementary school kid clued me in to the books. He came to the library where I was working and he wanted those books.
I found both books delightful. The back cover features a picture of the author with all the old-style appliances.
Disch was a wonderful writer. He was also a sensitive soul. He suffered from depression and mental breakdowns. When his life partner died, he went through a terrible time. Eventually he committed suicide. I wish someone could have helped him.
Read the books. There is more there than meets the eye. And I agree with you about Toy Story!

The Book of Life
(Those two have a Mexican/Latin theme to them)
Batman: The Mask of the Phantasm (some say the best Batman movie across all genres)
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
I have a soft spot for Rock and Rule.

(4,873 posts)especially the 3D version. "Spirited Away" is great, and there's another Japanese animation I love about a boy whose mother works at a retirement home and stays with the old ladies during a flood. There is a female spirit of the sea, and Liam Neeson voices her mate, whose daughter the little boy finds. It's all mixed up in my head--been years since I saw it. Maybe someone will know what I'm talking about. Anyway, it's a magical picture.

(577 posts)Rango for laughs. Stunning sets, great lighting and shadow (like when Rango first walks into the town bar) and voice characters and all the Easter Eggs and tributes in the animation to other famous films.
Secret of NIMH for traditional non computer generated animation. Very dark story line... not for children. Will mentally bother most normal people and cause you to have deep thoughts later.

(12,573 posts)Along with some of the other movies mentioned in this thread:
Castle in the Sky
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Kiki's Delivery Service
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island
Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost
Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders
Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase
The first 2 Anime's deal with serious theme's. Kiki is more lighthearted. The Scooby Doo animations are movie length and slightly scary with some good animation.
