(9,528 posts)I'm a quilter, piecer mostly, but I follow patterns others publish. I try to make them my own some way, changed block or colorway. Copying the masters seems like a good way to learn.

(54,498 posts)I mean you're good enough to create your own paintings. Or is the plan to become a forger? It's a nice profitable niche if you can delay the unveiling for several decades.

(24,732 posts)A lot can be learned copying other artists. You did a really good job with the colors and values in this one - water color is so tricky and you can't fix anything like you can with oils (which is why I tend to avoid water color).

(129,746 posts)did what they did is really useful. I did a fake Caravaggio once, starting from the verdacchio underpainting they used at the time; took me almost a year. It didn't come close to the original but it was an interesting exercise.
