I'm starting a drawing class tomorrow!

It's a ten-week class offered by our local library. Looking forward to it. I'm an absolutely horrible draftsman (person?), especially drawing the human figure and faces. This should be challenging but ultimately rewarding. Fingers crossed!

I'll be interested in seeing the change in your work... or not. I should say the influence this class will have on your already evolving style.

No pressure. This should be fun... exploration.

My advice? Seek inspiration, not perfection.

Good luck.

the more you (and others here) absorb, the less she has to endure.

and quite frankly it scares the shit out of me. It has been 50 years since I was (briefly) in art school.

and it's been really exciting. The instructor is great, he maintains that drawing is absolutely fundamental to everything else, and even when you get to more advanced painting he insists on a good underlying drawing. One class in figure drawing involved learning the basics of proportions of human bodies and faces. (I'm still not comfortable with faces because it's hard to aim the eyes.) I think you'll really enjoy it.

We did basic figures like this:

and worked up to more complicated ones like this:

I have always preferred pencil/charcoal sketching over painting, especially with faces. It’s really a skill. I could probably benefit from lessons, too. My college drawing classes were too long ago. 🙂

Anyway, good luck. Have fun with it! I hope you post some of your successes!
