So I finally started doing some figure drawing.

Last edited Sun Feb 23, 2020, 07:26 PM - Edit history (1)

So far (it's only been a week) I'm only working from reference photos, but I'm building up confidence to try a life drawing class after a nearly thirty year hiatus.

Thank you for the compliment--it means a lot to me because I'm such a fan of your work--but I'm sure you can draw this well, and you're a great colorist to boot.

I've been working with color using oil paint, but just landscapes and interiors, not the figure yet. I've never used colored pencil.

I'm looking forward to working with color with the figure, but another part of me says I still have so much to learn about anatomy and values. I think if I toss color into the mix now, it's too much complexity for me right now. I could see me playing around with ink, though.

I appreciate your comment about movement because I was so conscious of trying to capture the flow of the pose and of not tightening up.

I’m delighted you jumped in and started figure drawing! I’ve been looking forward to this since you mentioned you wanted to do it. The human body is fascinating isn’t it? Everything is about subtle shading, which you’re doing quite well. And when you go to a class you get a wonderful variety of bodies of real people with flaws and everything!

If you don’t already have one get a book of models in all kinds of poses. The good books will also have individual parts of the body like hands, feet, ears, noses and eyes that you can draw.

I can’t wait to see your life drawings!

It’s time after 30 years to devote yourself to the one thing that makes you utterly unique. Your art. I’m very happy if my encouragement has helped out. I know how important it is to get it.

It’s a month of recorded 30-second, one-minute, and five-minute poses producer by Croquis Cafe and with some tutorials from LoveLifeDrawing on YouTube. https://www.lovelifedrawing.com/figuary2020/

and occasionally went to open drawing sessions into my late twenties, but I'm just starting again after a thirty year hiatus.
I'm studying harder now than I did back then; I don't think I ever did any gesture drawings back then that came out as well as these.

I think the biggest hold up at this point is either fixing our car or getting a new one, because the engine is ticking too much to take it for a twenty-minute drive to the drawing session.
