(29,047 posts)Should we all hate them?
Most Scientologists live peaceful, productive lives.

(29,047 posts)Hate whomever you please, but lots of religious groups have participated in death and destruction on a far grander scale than scientology.

(5,018 posts)take your hate accusation elsewhere, I wont tolerate that bullshit

(29,047 posts)There are known facts about Islam that are much worse than the known facts about Scientology, but the majority of people in both of those faiths are peaceful and are just trying to get through their lives.

(20,805 posts)...calling the documentary 'propaganda' was one...so it made me think that perhaps you were so defensive about it because you were a scientologist. Is that not correct?
ZombieHorde
(29,047 posts)I do like consistency. If I say Muslims are dangerous terrorists and they should be shut down I would rightfully be called for broad brushing the many because of the behavior of the few. If I said the RCC wasn't a church but rather a pedophile protection ring I would be rightly called out for broad brushing the many because the behavior of the few.
truebrit71
(20,805 posts)...as well by that measure, yes?
Propaganda suggests that only one, favourable side of an issue is being presented. That didn't appear to be the case with this documentary, so I am curious as to why you chose that word?
ZombieHorde
(29,047 posts)It's too obvious otherwise. It won't be fair, but it will look fair to most people. Take a look at the results of this film. The majority of us are against broad brush attacks against religious minorities, but an exception is being made. The arguments defending other religious minorities in the US are also true of Scientology. The majority are just people trying to live their lives, and they use religion to help them get through their daily struggles.

(20,805 posts)...it's no different than other cults that call themselves religion based on wild-ass stories, it just happens to be the newest, and therefore the easiest to debunk.
This film DID show both sides of the story, and showed, quite clearly that it is a cult...

(29,047 posts)Islam is the religion I used in my example.
Hissyspit
(45,790 posts)But not all adherents to particular religions do deliberately unethical and abhorrent things. The documentary looks like journalism, not propaganda, to me. Just because they they chose Scientology to investigate instead of Islam (not exactly analogous subjects), doesn't make it propaganda.

(20,805 posts)...looked like a long overdue expose into a deeply disturbed cult that needs to be shut down.
