Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids perform "At the Hop". One of my favorite moments of this film. (And with a brief glimpse of Cindy Williams at the end.)

The movie version (a bit different than above)

He must have conceded to one African American couple only. Lol. I'll bet they were really popular in that class.
On edit:
Make that two black couples. But the second couple looks to have been spliced in from a different number, since they are line dancing at an entirely different tempo, which I believe is used later in the film as well.

(10,979 posts)How many non-white people did you see on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," "The Beverly Hillbillies" or "The Donna Reed Show"? There were very few.

(8,387 posts)Are you familiar with the movie? It was not made in the 1950s.
The third top-rated television show in 1973 was Sanford and Son.
Regardless of representation in the media, Im reasonably certain African Americans existed in the 1950s, and certainly featured in media in 1973.
Latinos do appear in the film as knife wielding gang members, and Wolfman Jack is rumored to be a negro.

(10,979 posts)My wife (then my girlfriend) and I saw this both in the theater (that we both worked at back then) and at home many times since. And things were different back in the '60s. There were much less diversity than there is now. Much less.
