she would go off and cry under a piano between scenes. Gene Kelly was a perfectionist and she was just starting out as an actress. I love the costume designs.

Kelley was just being honest in pointing out that Reynolds was a singer, not a dancer.
"She'll learn," said Mayer.
Learn she did.
