Quick Classic Quiz

Last edited Fri Nov 1, 2024, 12:31 PM - Edit history (1)

I'm new here posting but am a long-time lurker. I always appreciated other quizzes about old movies. The idea for my abbreviated offering is that these are quite famous films with lesser-known lines, or such is my opinion. I'll provide the quote and see if you get the title. Two of them are relatively easier than the other three.

1. "Why not read my column to pass the time? The minutes will fly like hours." (1950)

2. "There's a speed limit in this state, Mr. Neff; 45 miles an hour." -- "How fast was I going, officer?" -- "I'd say around 90." -- "Suppose you get down off your motorcycle and give me a ticket?" -- "Suppose I let you off with a warning?" -- "Suppose it doesn't take?" -- "Suppose I have to rap you over the knuckles?" -- "Suppose I bust out crying and put my head on your shoulder?" --"Suppose you put it on my husband's shoulder?" -- "That tears it!" (1944)

3. "There it was again, that room of hers. With that bed like a gilded rowboat." (1950)

4. "Nature, Mr. Allnut, is what we are put in this world to rise above." (1951)

5. "Well, hooray for the bulldogs!" (1941)

ANSWERS:

1. All About Eve.

2. Double Indemnity.

3. Sunset Boulevard.

4. The African Queen.

5. Citizen Kane. (The toughest one.)

Woman takes a drink of OJ out of the carton. Grabs a bottle of vodka and takes a huge chug.

Guy asks her what she's doing.

Her reply... Mixing screwdrivers.

Thanks for participating, all!

The famous films are:

All About Eve

Double Indemnity

Sunset Boulevard

The African Queen

Citizen Kane. (The toughest question: It's spoken to Orson Welles by his second wife Susan; she's confusing the old newspaper term "bulldog edition" for a sports team. In other words, they're failing to communicate.)
