...crochet and making dance costumes are mostly what I do....but I have done stenciling on walls and notecards, knitting, embroidery, needlepoint, oil painting, beading....

(17,056 posts)But I can understand why the term craft is applied to these categories.
I love to crochet, and do other hands on projects. However, I find most of my time is spent on digital artwork.
Once DU3 gets up and running full time perhaps you could post some pics of your work.

(408 posts)I make all my own cards. I understand about not having time. Sometimes these days, it seems like there is no time left in my day for me. And I don't even have kids!

(113,130 posts)and divide my time among spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet, and anything else I can figure out how to do with either yarn or raw fiber.
This group doesn't get a whole lot of love, it mostly goes in fits and starts because I guess we'd rather do this stuff than write about doing it.

(34,189 posts)I do a lot of different types of each - right now I am working on a tradition needlepoint canvas all in basketweave, a whitework project with withdrawn and pulled thread, a crewel project with emphasis on shading and needlepainting, and will be starting several stumpwork projects soon.
But I've had exposure to weaving, quilting, beading, sewing (including costuming), leatherwork, braiding, ceramics, wood carving, carpentry, and a lot of other stuff.
Now that I am retired, I should have time, but I seem to stay busier than ever with cooking, baking, needlework, genealogy, and birdwatching!

(1,819 posts)With cotton prices through the roof, I'm mostly making do with fabric in my stash. My fabric purchases are way down this last year - I've only bought flannel (for rag quilts) and solids.
I don't do any complicated crochet these days, mostly pot holders and an occasional ripple quilt for a baby gift.
I also dabble in a bit a beaded embroidery.
I sold a bunch of old cross-stitch books and magazines last year, and gave a ton of unused floss to my best friend's daughter. I only kept supplies for a handful of projects that I really want to make.
I did needlepoint in college, and learned to knit in high school, but never really kept up with those. Before I had kids, I did a lot of clothing construction - suits with lined jackets and bound buttonholes, pants with fly-front zippers, slash pockets and french seams.
Time is a huge factor. And when we retire in a couple of years, I'll have more time but much less money. Can't win!

(2,681 posts)I done just about every craft you can image, Sewing is my core craft, although I have done knitting, crocheting, teddy bear making, collages, beading and many other things.
Right now, I am really into working with recycled fabrics and have made lots of cute things. One is a skirt made of flannel shirts, I have made about 6 of these. Another is a vest made of felted sweaters. Also made cute baby caps using felted cashmere sweaters.
Right now I am making a quilt, using new and old fabrics.
But we stay so busy since we retired that I have a hard time setting aside some work hours for my crafting projects. I am getting ready to go upstairs and sew some more blocks for my quilt.
