I started coloring again. It is so relaxing. I enjoyed it so much when I was a child, and now it's popular again.
I tried crayons, but found pencils to be more to my liking.
Anybody else out there coloring?

(2,939 posts)Finding myself slightly obsessed! I really enjoy mandalas. I love the balance and color play.
I use markers--ultra fine sharpies.

(77 posts)markers. Haven't got any, but I'm going shopping today. I love mandelas, too. I'm currently working on smaller-sized books as I have small snippets of time. I have probably 10 different pages in progress. But, I am a completer. lol

(2,005 posts)When I first realized that coloring for relaxation was becoming a 'thing', I had flashbacks to when I was a kid. One of my great joys was going to my grandma's house and coloring with her. But my memory now is of her always saying 'Stay inside the lines' or 'Don't color outside of the lines'. I don't think it actually stressed me out then, but I do remember trying SO hard to do what she said, mainly to please her I think. I also think that it followed me when I started drawing as an adult, using pencils both graphite and colored. I was always obsessed with detail, and getting things 'perfect'. Even now when working on art dolls and their faces etc, I can't get over trying to get it perfect. I know that is counterproductive and not necessary for a good piece, but it's still in my head. Thanks Gram!
Anyway, when I see the books everywhere, it makes me think of those days and laugh.

(77 posts)color outside the lines, not be perfect and give those memories the perfect FU! It's in your control.
During the workday, I have to follow the rules, make no mistakes, and be nice. When I am coloring, simply: I don't.

(2,005 posts)I think that's why when I do an art project now it always seems to end up being 'off-beat' in some way....wild colors, dark subject matter etc. I do fight that 'make it perfect' little voice in the back of my head. Do the unexpected and break the rules when you/we can!

(12,051 posts)on vacation that actual said stuff like "get well" and "my special friend" on them, but had to buy them singly. I wish I'd bought a dozen of them when I saw them -- they were quick to color and send to a couple of friends.
I also have a couple of books with several pages in progress. All colored pencil, although I think I'll do a couple of the post cards in fine-line Sharpies.
AND I have a couple of those foldout long coloring pages -- "Paris" and "Dragons." I haven't started on either of them yet.
I've had fun practicing my shading, crosshatching, and blending (yes, I have a colored pencil blender). I plan on doing a couple of pages or cards strictly in black/grays/white, just for fun.

(77 posts)post cards! I'm off to look for them.

(12,051 posts)have sent them already and kick myself for not noting the publisher. None of the book stores around here carry anything like those single post cards. The post cards that I did buy at the bookstore came in little books, but they aren't greeting cards like those single ones. They're just pretty pictures to color with no greetings.

(2,682 posts)A friend gave me a coloring book and pencils. I thought it odd at first but found coloring a pleasant pastime between physical therapy sessions. I'm home now but still restricted in what I can do so I'm still working on the coloring book.

Have you thought about buying an adult colouring book? there are lots now and some are great! different artists create the artwork - line drawings . Some can be really intricate and take hours to colour in!
have a look online there are loads! good luck !
