(2,423 posts)It gets plenty of airplay to this day on radio stations that include the 1980s as part of their format.

(71,520 posts)Someone else posted it last week and it made me think "Why did I never figure this song out?"
So, I figured out both a guitar & piano version of it.
Nice chord changes, pretty melody, that mellow organ line, and excellent vocal performance. Plenty to like.

(715 posts)Don't Dream It's Over is Neil Finn's most popular song. But he has many, many others that are just as great...just not as popular. Start up the old YouTube and take a listen to:
Message To My Girl - with his first group Split Enz
World Where You Live
Now We're Getting Somewhere (uptempo rocker)
Into Temptation ( incredibly beautiful ballad)
Fall At Your Feet (another beautiful ballad)
It's Only Natural
Weather With You
Four Seasons In One Day
Private Universe
Distant Sun
When You Come
Nails In My Feet
Heaven That I'm Making
Archer's Arrows
Other Side Of The World

(715 posts)Don't Dream It's Over has a "Mersey Beat" feel to it as in something that came out of Liverpool in 1964 only updated with music from 20 years later. It's not surprising since Neil and his brother Tim grew up singing and harmonizing to Beatles tunes. Their sound can be Beatlesque at times. Listen to In My Command and Neil sounds a lot like John Lennon.
