(62,047 posts)... he'd come home mean at around 3:00AM. when I turned 14 or so I went to work with in the summers. My mom made go with him because she thought he'd come in earlier I was there. When I turned 16, it got worse. Now he had a designated driver, so he would stay out later. And he still drove anyways. I became an aficionado of bar treats - Beer Nuts, Blind Owls (some kind of a dried fish), jerky .... . Had my first hard liquor in the Navy. I've been drunk maybe five times in my life. Just don't care for it.
One night it was still light and we zoomed up 176 through Akron at about 8:00PM. He was doing 80 on a hi-way APD monitored pretty heavy. He saw me grqbbing my seat. He said: "Speed doesn't matter if you're a good driver, the drivers ahead see you coming and they get out of your way."
this from a guy who totaled two cars in drunk driving, once taking out a telephone pole, once sideswiping two cars, going off the road and knocking a small house of it's foundation. The owner came out in pajamas and started beating the old man with a broom. The cops and EMS just arriving had to drag him off.
When he had to go to court, his lawyer had gotten to the EMS and paid him off to say that the cop who got dad's wallet had taken cash out of it, and the case was thrown out. The plastic surgeon who repaired his cheek bone and that side of his face, and eye socket did a truly amazing work, no visible stitches - the work was done by cutting inside his mouth and going underneath the skin.
I've heard more country music than most anyone. Every morning on WSLR AM, the dj, the Jaybird, used to play this song for his intro:
When the song ended, he'd say, "Goooood coffee" and start his set.
I heard this every weekday morning for about eight years. I left home immediately after high school.
