...and after his death spawned hordes of blazing blues guitar players.
Before him, modern blues was exemplified by artists like Clapton, BB King, and other laid back guitar slingers. SRV took that mellow cauldron of blues and pumped oxygen into the fire. He turned it up to 11 and it hasn't been the same since.

I was lucky to see Kenny Wayne Shepherd play with Double Trouble years ago in a lasting tribute. I had to put up with Ted Nugent's anti Hillary shenanigans as opening act to see them.

How many rock blues guitar players now cite him as an influence? Happy Birthday SRV, thank you, and thanx for posting.

My wife & I saw him open for Clapton at Alpine Valley. Plus, the 2 bands jammed together for around 40 minutes at the end.
We left during the last song of the jam because we had a nearly 2 hour drive home.
Got home around 1:30 in the morning. Woke up at around 7 and saw on WGN news that he had died in the chopper crash.
