It's one of those "culture-critique" songs that always strike a nerve with me. I remember years ago, Don Henley said it was about opulence becoming decadence, or something like that. He nailed it.

Used to be a sleepy town, just off the west coast of Florida until it became boom town and it hasn’t stopped. It’s unrecognizable with the development and lack of planning for the developers that come from out of state…the song hits home, for sure
