Everything about it is superb. Some rock writers have praised it as his best song ever.
One clear indicator of how good a song is, is the ability to have it covered in a radically different way & still be really good.
Your second video demonstrates that.
BTW: I just watched "The Replacements" last night. Heroes is used for the song in the triumphant ending!
