(69,894 posts)They did a show at the big fieldhouse in the city where I grew up.
We had backstage passes (long story) and got to hang out after the show.
We were all under 18 at the time, so Floyd (drummer), Skip (extra keyboardist), and Mike (guitar) acted like big brothers to make sure we weren't drinking.
They were all really nice guys. Treated all 4 of us like we belonged there for the entire hour plus.

(69,894 posts)...on an idea that Negron & Hutton had that since nine of them were very good, or prolific, songwriters, they should find songs they could cover & let the players make it their band's tune.
Eli was brought to the band by Negron, with the intention of Wells singing it.
He didn't being it in and then figure out who should sing lead. He brought it in with a plan of one of the other guys taking the lead.
They did that all the time.
Jimmy & Mike figured out how the music would go, the other 3 figured out the harmonies. (Jimmy & Mike would always wait to see what Floyd wanted to do on drums before they finalized the arrangement. The bass players were both flexible and would figure out what was needed based on what the other 3 wanted to do.)
Very egalitarian.
