I got to watch all of Captain Kangaroo in the morning and still be in class at the right time. I got home for lunch and got to see Captain Penny all the way through, and got to see all of Barnaby and all of Captain Penny. I had a marvelous childhood.

(72,387 posts)The Temps were increasingly annoyed at how much of the song was instrumental.
The guy who wrote it, arranged it, & originally recorded it also produced it. He wasn't about to give on hus arrangements.
It got bad enough that he got fired from the project. But, Gordy decided to finish it because they'd already rung up a lot of production costs.
And, he & Smokey calmed the Temps down and convinced them to let it ride.
The result of all that conflict was this incredible tune.
