Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2026: Oasis, Mariah Carey, New Order, Joy Division, Sade among nominees

https://www.nme.com/news/music/rock-roll-hall-of-fame-2026-oasis-mariah-carey-new-order-joy-division-sade-among-nominees-3931414

Oasis make the shortlist for the third consecutive year, while Joy Division and New Order, who are listed together as one candidate, are also up for a third time, having been nominated in 2023 and 2025. Other repeat nominees are Mariah Carey, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Sade and The Black Crowes.

In terms of first-time nominees, Lauryn Hill and Jeff Buckley have both made the shortlist, as have the Wu-Tang Clan, Pink, INXS, Phil Collins, Luther Vandross, Shakira, New Edition and Melissa Etheridge.

Oasis being nominated for the third consecutive year might not please frontman Liam Gallagher, who reacted to their 2024 nomination by writing: “Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS”. He also discouraged fans from voting for them, calling it “a load of bollox”.

He reiterated his sentiments last year, saying the Hall is “for WANKERS”, although he replied to one fan asking what would happen if they got in by saying: “Obv go and say it’s the best thing EVER”.

Nominees:

Billy Idol
The Black Crowes
INXS
Iron Maiden
Jeff Buckley
Joy Division/New Order
Lauryn Hill
Luther Vandross
Mariah Carey
Melissa Etheridge
New Edition
Oasis
Phil Collins
Pink
Sade
Shakira
Wu-Tang Clan

Oasis reclaimed big, anthemic rock & roll for a new generation, delivering songs so deeply felt they became the communal soundtrack of a nation.

Oasis are one of the most successful and influential acts of all time. Exploding out of the 1990s U.K. music scene, they reclaimed big, brash, hook-filled rock & roll with their anthemic sound, cool swagger, expertly crafted lyrics, and electrifying live performances – eventually selling over a hundred million records. Their songs have become England’s go-to anthems, sung in unison by fans at sporting events and social gatherings and inspiring countless bands including the Killers and Arctic Monkeys.

Formed in Manchester, England, the band’s seminal 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe was a critical and commercial smash that included the singles “Live Forever” (the band’s first Top Ten hit) and “Supersonic.” They found even greater success with their sophomore release (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, a stateside breakthrough that boasted the era-defining smashes “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova” – perfect songs for massive crowd sing-alongs.

After years of speculation and rumors, near-hysteria followed Oasis’ 2024 announcement of their highly anticipated 2025 reunion tour. The tour’s impact – $400 million in sales with over two million tickets sold, rising to Number Two on the Worldwide Tours Chart – proved Oasis fever continues to spread, and the band’s influence remains as strong as ever.

Sade? I love her style, but she had minimal hits & she didn't exert any influence. So, no.
Mariah Carey? Great voice, disposable pop. So, no.
Billy Idol? Maybe. Several hits; high impact videos.
The Black Crowes? Mayor, though I don't get the appea.
INXS? 100%. Unique sounds, many hits.
Iron Maiden? Highly influential, so yes.
Jeff Buckley? M'eh
Joy Division/New Order? Hard yes. Great influence over the synth rock genre.
Lauryn Hill? Great singer, but HOF?
Luther Vandross? Definitely. Super popular in his day, wonderful soulful voice.
Melissa Etheridge? Not enough hits
New Edition? Hard no. Flash in the pan; manufactured act.
Oasis? Well, duh.
Phil Collins? Well, duh.
Pink? I'm a fan. Her Live At The Funhouse concert film is one my faves. But, no.
Shakira - Hard no. Autotune queen.
Wu-Tang Clan? Very influential, so yes.
