Are son is 12 and today him and his friend 2 guitar slingers both in sixth grade. Are inviting a friend they met who is bassist to the house to start jamming. It amazes me how far along these boys are on fretboard compared to when I was there age and I'm 51,jamming with me and my friends or you tube or online guitar lessons a wealth of information that I even use why .I took a course with my son called all the way to electric lady land my son said dad you know the song yes but always be open to learning I replied. I just got home and the boys are getting ready for home use we have these 1 watt tube amps plenty for the house ,but the pedals are out amp cords being hooked up to heads and cabinets I plan on sitting in to jam but I'll fire up the grill and do burgers for the boys.

(6,163 posts)Youtube is such a great learning resource - I love it! Yep these kids are going to play rings around us - as it should be!!
You tube or true fire on line I have friends will jam and are son will set in with us. Other week I had to refresh since I been loving you by zeppelin I went to you tube. And you are correct these kids today at 12 with the information they have they add years to the fretboard it is amazing. From when I was growing up playing albums over and over again. Trying to learn I think it is great.

I have close friend who is awesome drummer we go to this blues association jam and it is relaxed there is some great players. Who could be on albums but they never were discovered.
pushing retirement age but starting to learn to play mandolin. I've been a singer for over 50 years and do quite well with it.
I go to the bluegrass jams in the local town, I learn a lot from those folks. At home I try to play the music I use for my vocal exercises, stuff you'll hear on the radio including almost all varieties of rock and blues. Music is my first language.
Have great day with your music party!!
From bluegrass and in no way am I saying I'm bluegrass guitarist but I will try anything especially chickin picking at times I'll just noodle around on fret board and toss something out goofing off. I have a good friend who is accomplished chickin picker and bluegrass player.

(92,948 posts)I live in an area where there are many artists, some with well known names. Twice a year there's a "pick" where a couple hundred musicians come together and jam for a whole weekend. I went to the first one in January and had a great time. But the area has a large art community and I am all into that since I do other art, music is my first "thing". I'll sing just about any kind of music with a few exceptions like heavy metal and rap, I'll listen to those a bit but I don't perform them. Currently I'm learning to play "still Got the Blues for You" by Gary Moore... I have the vocal part whipped but now I want to cover the rhythm part on the mandolin. Playing and singing is another challenge!
Here where we live is a large community of players, and I will say a few of them could be professional but it never worked out for them. but i enjoy guitar people ask if I play. And my answer is I been exploring the fretboard for 40 years,at moment I'm grilling and the boys are in front room jamming bouncing riffs off each other. I think they let me sit in with them to humor me. I asked em if I could be the deep thinker in the boy band to joke. Or maybe the cute one , and they make me smile there like were musicians get out here. I respond to are son college in 6 years then fame , dad can be your guitar tech I'll take my union pension but let's start the shows early , so I can be in bed by 9 pm. There jamming ZZ Top sure got cold after the rain fell my wife told me no stay put mister but dear that lead part is awesome I do it so well. I'm chained and in sandals to the grill.
