(31,463 posts)One of my all time favorites. The first time I heard her, I called my daughter who was away at school. I played Susan's music for her.
Now she loves Susan as well.
This woman has a once in a generation voice.

(31,463 posts)My very favorite is Janis Joplin. The first time I heard her sing, I thought she was black. I was just starting to appreciate the blues, and I did not think there were any white singers who could begin to do justice to the genre.
I am reading a biography of Janis right now. It is by Holly George-Warren. It is well written, but I am not learning anything new about Janis. The author mentions that her literary agent actually saw Janis in concert. Well, so did I.
I do have to say that the book is well researched. It has an extensive bibliography and many footnotes.
I wonder what hippie chick Janis would have thought about a scholarly approach to her brief, messy life.
I am glad Susan does not live this sort of life. That may give us a chance to appreciate her gifts for many more years to come.
Happy birthday!!!!
