Fare you well Jerry Garcia

Jerry Garcia passed away 28 years ago today.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was getting off of a bus in Martinez, CA and was met by my parents.

I was going to the Children's Hospital in San Francisco to see a neurologist to have my diagnosis confirmed.

The news came over the P.A. system in the bus. Some awhole belched out a nasty remark and I got off of the bus ...

RIP dear brother! There will never be another one of YOU.

The outpouring of grief in the days that followed was incredible. I went to the Haight/GG park a couple of days after and there were just so many 1000's of people everywhere, who came together to collectively grieve. People made pilgrimages from everywhere, man.

I don't think the USA will ever see anything quite like that again where so many 1000's converge on 1 city to mourn the loss of a musical icon.

Wish I'd gone to the Wake at the Polo Fields but I IIRC I had to work that day.

Jerry, gone but not forgotten

I worked with several guys who were bids dead heads. I called into the office and expressed my sympathy for their lost. Three of them and I had a mini conference call as I expressed my condolences.

I wasn’t a deadhead and even saw him once New Year’s Eve at a concert that I left early.
