Smoke from wildfires in Ontario and Quebec continues to drift into the Susquehanna Valley in Pennsylvania. We've been under a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert since yesterday. I smelled smoke when I took the photo at !:30 AM.
By 5:15 AM the moon's hue had gone from orange to pink.

a hot bright orange sphere beyond ours.
I was outside one night handing out Halloween candy, and every time I looked up the Moon was more orange. Finally I asked a couple of parents if they knew where the fire was, since we couldnt smell smoke. When hubby and I went back in, you bet we turned on the TV to see what was up.
Your Moon looks downright bloody. Good photo.

(5,645 posts)but wildfires are rare. I saw and smelled smoke in southwestern Virginia while I was driving home to PA last Friday. The smoke rolled in to Lancaster yesterday morning, giving the town a rosy glow.
The moon was low in the sky when I took the shot. The hue has changed as it's gotten higher. I'm going out to take a another photo and will post if it's interesting.

(36,219 posts)I tried taking a picture of it with my crappy phone camera, but the orange was washed out. That's a great shot.

(5,645 posts)We're now under a Code Red Air Quality Alert and a warning about an elevated risk of wildfires due to a combination of dry and breezy conditions. We also have abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions here.
