(35,632 posts)It looks so cool and refreshing! Even though that surfer wiped out. I can almost hear the waves. It was 91 here today and were all melting!

(35,006 posts)I used to run between the Hermosa Pier and the Manhattan Beach Pier every day.
Are the photos from the Manhattan Beach Pier?
It does look as if, in the photographs, the beach is eroded from the 1970's, or perhaps it's climate change.
Nice photographs, very well done.

(152,781 posts)That's a pretty hefty run between those piers! It takes stamina.
And yes, the photos were taken on the Manhattan Beach Pier. It's an excellent vantage point.
I'm amazed they turned out as well as they did; the sun's glare made it almost impossible to see what I was doing!
Thanks for your lovely remarks.

(35,006 posts)...was an excellent way to exorcize some personal demons in my youth, and massive exercise was a part of the process.
I do look back fondly on the physical shape I was in. I lived in Hermosa and worked in Harbor City, commuting by bicycle making a point to go over the route through Palos Verdes. Some weekends I'd bike up to Santa Monica on the Strand, past the El Segundo refinery and Dockweiler through Playa Del Rey, run for an hour or two with friends, bike back to Hermosa.
It was all to clear the demons of my youth. It more or less worked, got me on the road to clearing my head; and gave me the emotional strength to fall in love, which I did, ultimately back East.
I don't know that was a happy time then, but it led me on the path to happiness. Things like the old Either/Or bookstore, the breakfasts on the Strand, the massive exercise, they all helped me heal.
I'm not sure I miss it, but I certainly appreciate what that time did for me.
Of course, back then, Hermosa was affordable.
Thank you for the lovely pictures. They were evocative and helped me to reflect.

(4,969 posts)a very long time ago, and fortunately at a fairly unpopular beach
CaliforniaPeggy
(152,781 posts)How embarrassing for you. Thank goodness it was long ago and not a popular beach!

(4,969 posts)Sure, he gave me a 'well, that's you're problem' when I asked him to retrieve the lost garment as I bobbed neck deep in the waves, but he was/is an honorable, if ornery chap, and he did get my swimsuit top for me.
edited to add: Also, being older, I was the one with the driver's license and it would have been a really long walk home for him if I didn't get out of that water. LOL

(152,781 posts)I really chose that photo since it showed the whole beach. It's an establishing shot which I like to do.
