tropical raccoon....have you ever seen one of these?

photo of a coati taken at one of my wildlife blinds today
coatis are a tropical relative of the raccoons we know and love in the USA.

i have bananas growing all over the place (as well as other fruit producing plants).....i'm feeding the rain forest inadvertently!

Personally, I think our North Anericwn trash pandas are cuter, with their shorter snouts and bushier coats, but coatis are pretty cool in their own way!

I dont think I've seen one of those guys in the flesh, but I knew about them.

If I'm not mistaken, their range extends into parts of the southwestern U.S. (i.e., southern Texas and New Mexico and parts of Arizona). I don't know if that's the same type/species of coati that's found in Central America, but they look pretty similar, in pictures, at least.
