Related: About this forumA new member of my aviary family
I love canaries.
I have two at the moment, one brown and one with a reddish chest. Both are wonderful singers, but I needed a third. My aviary is large and stately, and I don't like things in even numbers, anyway.
But Canaries are expensive.
I am old.
So I am in a study learning to dance so they learn in return to evaluate if old folks regain a better memory from that kind of physical activity. They also pay a modicum to be involved. I used the money to buy my third canary.
Meet TANGO.
For me his birthday is Thanksgiving, and I hope you who read this will have a happy holiday with your real or chosen family.

(22,480 posts)It's tricky. Canaries are not sold as males or females. You take your chances. And females don't sing.
He sings and reminds me of Caruso.
I got the photo with my phone in front of many complimentary colors in a painting I did long ago. Jackson Pollock was visiting in my imagination. I took it with my phone.

(18,651 posts)This was before I met him, but he told me about it. The little guy's name was Skippy, after the ones his mom had when he was growing up. It's kind of a funny story - she only had one canary at a time, but each one was named Skippy. When one Skippy would get old and pass away, she would get a new Skippy to take his place.
The last Skippy was the one my husband got for himself when he was away at college. After that Skippy died, he meant to get another canary but never got around to it. He was still talking about getting one when we started dating, but somewhere around that time, canaries started to get a lot more expensive, and he couldn't afford one (broke college kid and all).
He was still talking about getting another Skippy when we got married, but it never happened, mainly due to the price tag. (Also, I'm a cat person and once I started acquiring cats, it would have been tricky to have a bird. )
Tango is adorable, and I hope he brings you much joy!
