I was out walking with my camera and saw many beautiful flowers. This one stopped me in my tracks!

It's difficult to find truly autumnal photos here in Southern California. We just don't get cold enough for the brilliantly colored trees of elsewhere. So we make do with what we have, even if it's not a traditional fall photo.

It’s a detail of one of four identical bronze “Lady of Justice” statues that face north, south, east, and west, from the top of the four sides of the courthouse. Each of these copper statues stands 12 feet high and weighs 700 pounds.

I found this while researching online: “From there, they overlook and dispense the fair and equal administration of the law in all directions. I discovered that Lady Justice as she is depicted in statues around the world is remarkably consistent. Our ladies in Trumbull County are mature young women with a definite attitude. They are draped in flowing robes, and brandish a sword in their right hands (the power to judge), while the left reaches up and out to show us their scales (a symbol of fair dealing). Notice that they are not blindfolded.” I was struck by how framing the statue with bright red fall leaves made me think of her fighting a fire.

I can only speak for myself, but I greatly enjoy seeing your work!

I am quite sure I'm not your only fan.

Enjoy the new camera! I know you will.

Really looking forward to the increased detail... f/stop settings, and
Underwater (!) We have streams and waterfalls where we live!

Photography Background:

At 9 I started with a Kodak box camera....I don't know if I have that scrapbook anymore?

At 14 I got to borrow my dad's Minolta SRT-101 SLR
at (prep) school. Shot, developed & printed B&W for three years in a vibrant camera club..

All my best work was on exhibition on graduation day....

Went to pick them up, every picture had been stolen...
including four (expensive) 16x20s

Beyond upset, I quit taking pictures for several years.

In College did a short collaborative film with my SO,
(filmed in Friendly's w/out permission! ) Soundtrack
(from miced stereo) Was Traffic: "Glad" & KC & Sunshine Band's
"That's the way" to video of S.O eating ice cream cone inside the establishment...

Used an old Instamatic in the 80's-90's,

then was given a Kodak 1.6MP digital camera by a computer client of mine...
(a lot of the flower pics were taken with this camera)

In 2006 I had a little money, and
bought my L4...new about $129... So 18 years with my first Nikon.

RTFM in advance is what I'm doing..

I use to speed walk a popular trailway in Amherst, NY before going to work.

On this morning during my workout, I snagged this ominous sky photo with the leaves turning fall colors.

This photo I call Ominous October Horizon was taken on October 20, 2022.

I forgot about the contest- I better start crackin'!
I have several from my archives in mind. I wonder what size to reduce them to as my photos usually about 5000 resolution.

This is the first contest we won't be enforcing the size limits but please keep in mind that huge files can cause problems so keep it a reasonable size for our mobile users.

Hope that helps!

I know that, just wondering if 2000 res was too big, I think 5000 and 28 MB might be too big, and take forever to load!

for us living in a monoseason area, but some colors do change!

See if you can find the Anhinga/Cormorant(can't tell the difference without seeing the bill) on the far left side.

but I didn't go. And then every time I went out around town in October I thought I should pick a day and venture out with my camera. Didn't do that, either. Went through my back yard photos for this year and, eh, nothing worth submitting. Looked through last year and found the frog. He (?) amuses me, especially when I wonder if he thought that leaf could be a seahorse? Shot on my patio October 1, 2022.
