(92,009 posts)Nice stroll in the park! I like the little white poppies with the blue tips in that one picture, such an unusual looking flower coloring for that kind of poppy.
CaliforniaPeggy
(151,805 posts)I'm not sure that those flowers are poppies. They sure are beautiful, no matter what they are.
I think there was a sign near them, but of course I didn't read it! Too busy capturing images.

(92,009 posts)They probably aren't poppies but now you know which ones I'm talking about. They could be anemone or something closer to that.
We had a really nice day on Monday so my hiking pal and I went off to the hinterlands. We ended up doing a pretty hefty 5 miles with packs, I should have prepared better. I didn't break anything but I sure am a little stiff here and there. Mostly my thighs, it turned out to be a little steeper than we expected.
My next stroll will be less stressful, I'm thinking.
And that's why I need a smaller, lighter camera. The one I have, still, is so cumbersome anymore that I don't take it with me. But that's when I get my great shots, when I'm out in the wild so I need to come up with a pack camera that doesn't weigh much and doesn't take up a lot of space in my pack. I know there's one out there, I just haven't invested in looking yet.
Here's to pleasant walks among the plants in their world!

(151,805 posts)I have the Mark IV and it's small (a 4/3 camera) and gets great photos. That's the only camera I use now and I love it.
I'm with you on pleasant walks in the plant world!

(14,495 posts)two mallard ducks in my yard for the first time this year. They visited twice today. We have had a lot of rain here in KCMO the last week. I dont know if its the same pair that showed up last year, but they seem to show up after we have had a great deal of rain.
CaliforniaPeggy
(151,805 posts)Especially when it's been raining. Lucky you! They're beautiful birds.

(4,941 posts)About the signs: When I'm shooting (with cameras ) at botanical gardens I often take shots of identification signs for later reference--when they can be found. Sometimes the species remains a mystery, and that's alright too. The word is not the thing.
CaliforniaPeggy
(151,805 posts)I wanted to get that trail photo in there just for that reason. And your idea about taking photos of the signs is terrific! How come I didn't think of that???

(34,022 posts)They always wander in the spring ... must be looking for places to nest. My dog *enjoys* watching them out the window (by "enjoy" I mean he barks his crazy head off ...)
CaliforniaPeggy
(151,805 posts)They seemed very tame.
Glad your dog *enjoys* them too!
Thanks for your cool remarks, my dear TBF!

(151,805 posts)The poppies are just about my favorite thing about spring here in SoCal!
They bloom wherever they get enough sun and it just really dresses the place up!

(24,043 posts)Prettiest scenery I ever saw was in Big Sur one spring. The forest side of the hill was covered in purple columbines and the sun side with orange and yellow poppies. It was just stunning, like a V with a blue side and an orange side - only totally natural. Big Sur is one of my favorite places on earth.
