The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is migrating South and a few dozen stopped by for a drink. The travelers coupled with those living around us made for a busy time at our 6 feeders. Soon, very soon, they will all be gone for the winter. So far, we haven't had any to stay during the cold months, though some will do so closer to the Gulf.
This is just a tiny sampling of the many, many hummers that stopped by.

Hummingbirds can be vicious. They'll use their poo and their pee as weapons by buzzing another hummer and letting loose, causing the hummer being attacked with bodily fluids to back away. They will also use their beaks to peck the heads of other hummingbirds, when they're not ramming into one another while in flight.
Speaking of bird pee and poo, it's not just other hummingbirds that take a risk at the feeders, the little darlings will get the silly human that is sitting too close as well.
Still, they are beautiful creatures.

(97,273 posts)I changed out feeders 3 times today. That's a lot of sugar.
Thanks, brer cat.
