Related: About this forumThe Moon, Jupiter and Aldebaran tonight
Aldebaran is a giant star in the constellation Taurus. The starburst around the moon is a cool effect made by my camera lens's aperture blades and the aperture setting I used, f11.

(35,117 posts)I got home approx. 6:30 pm and noticed the bright object just off to the right of the bright moon as I was on the road. Im afraid I did not see Jupiter until I actually was out of my car and in my driveway.
Thanks so much for the photo and for identifying these objects, Mousetoescamper! Its always cool to know what youre seeing.

I've been using the live maps at the "Time and Date" site (timeanddate.com) to identify and locate objects in the night sky. The site is easy to use and I don't have to scroll through unnecessary text and graphics to find the when and where of an object. Go to the site, click the "Sun, Moon & Space" button, find what you're seeking on the pulldown menu, and plug in your general location. There are also useful articles on upcoming celestial events.
From the site's "About" page:

(5,466 posts)I love the grainy texture and backlit clouds. You should also post it in Photography. You'll get many more views there and it deserves to be seen.
