APOD—Astronomy Picture Of the Day—is something else from NASA (et al). We need to enjoy it whilst we can.

Earthshine—reflected sunlight—was (as far as can be historically documented) first described as the cause of the dimly lit portion of la bella luna by polymath genius Leonardo da Vinci around the turn of the Fifteenth Century



I've always liked the term 'Earthenglow' as it reminds me of Alpenglow—the wonderful rosy-orange glowing of sunlit mountain peaks against the dark as the sun rises or slips below the horizon.
