(26,425 posts)5. Surveyors and Arid lookouts are very close to my location
The Snow Peak lookout, which is even closer, is scheduled to go on the rental program as soon as some repairs are made. Arid and Snow Peak are hike-in lookouts, while Surveyors can be reached in a high-clearance vehicle.

This is me at Surveyors fire lookout in mid-July 2025. It took me 3.5 hours to drive the 20 miles from my lookout location.
