Digging through old stuff looking for a contest submission, this is one of my favorite photos from Yellowstone, but I decided it wasn't "Yellowstoney" enough for the contest, so I'll just post it.

(156,024 posts)I am wondering: did you use a long lens to get these beauties? It's very well done.

(12,166 posts)I walked up slowly, but most of the animals around Yellowstone seem to be accustomed to humans.

(156,024 posts)I was looking for the super long lens with the foreshortened foreground and didn't see that.
I do believe the animals in Yellowstone know they're protected, and accustomed to humans.

(15,330 posts)I heard the splashing as the elk waded out into the lake, and smelled the water, grass and pines. I could feel a chill in the air as I watched the clouds kiss the hilltop in the distance. It made me feel like a kid again.
This is a great scene. It really is.
Thanks for this.

(22,153 posts)I will always associate elk with Yellowstone. When my husband and I visited the park in September 2018, there were elk all over the place. Leaving the park late one night, a big handsome bull elk crossed the road just a few feet in front in front of our car and paused for a moment to look at us like "What ARE YOU doing here?" (We were moving very slowly at the time, thank goodness.) Good times!
