ROSWELL New Mexico; the television series

First, let me ask a political question: Before we elected Grisham (D) as Governor of New Mexico, Martinez (R) invested lots of our money in Hollywood, to induce companies to make movies in our state. I just watched Roswell, New Mexico (about space aliens) and I hope the TV series was not part of this alleged investment. It was filmed in our state; not only in Roswell but also in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

IMHO, the series had too much romance and melodrama and not enough Star Trek style space adventure and special effects. During one of the many romantic scenes, I wish one of the space-aliens, passing themselves off as humans, would have told their lover, "I need some space."

In defense of the series, it featured a rather daring homosexual encounter and some actors appearing to smoke marijuana, which our state-legislature will probably legalize. Grisham has already stated that she would sign the bill into law, after the state-house sent it to her desk.

1. It's a heavily-modified reboot of the "Roswell" TV series of the late 90s...

...which was itself based on a series of YA novels. Not unlike Twilight (which, I should point out, borrowed heavily from the earlier versions of Roswell).

... and your description is pretty spot-on. I'll probably watch another episode, maybe two, and make a decision whether I'll stick with it. On the other hand, I think the history channel's new series Project Blue Book is pretty good, and might have a future.

3. First off, Martinez did NOT invest lots of our money in Hollywood.

In fact, she cut the tax benefit to Hollywood to such an extent that they were seriously considering pulling out of this state pretty much altogether.

Even now, the tax credit is limited and is giving some productions pause.

So, just in case you do not understand, it's not an investment. It's a tax benefit. Whether or not you like this series, or any series or any movie, is irrelevant.

Several years ago I had a temp job with a company in Santa Fe that does water: bottled water, filtered water, versions of water I don't understand and quite frankly think are dumb, but that's just me. Anyway, what I learned from working from this one small company was how important the film and TV industry is to this state. They provided water to a number of film and TV productions, and I saw some of the numbers and was quite impressed. And this was one small company, providing only one small service to these productions.

So, get back off your high horse. The fact that you don't like this series is unfortunate, but irrelevant. I will say that I haven't bothered to watch it, but there are a lot of shows I don't watch. I suspect that's the same of you.

But before you stop crapping ignorant stuff, please take the time to learn how the film and TV industry works in this state. And understand, quite fundamentally, that the state does NOT make investments. It offers tax credits. There is a difference.

This is the TV forum and here is your reply about the television show, "I will say that I haven't bothered to watch it," Then, for some odd reason you personally attack me, while defending Martinez, without saying a single word about the ways our new Governor Grisham (D) has already improved our educational system. BTW, Martinez claimed she would fix our schools and New Mexico is still ranked near the bottom of the USA in that category.

On edit: In a critical, dismissive attitude you also state, Whether or not you like this series, or any series or any movie, is irrelevant. although NOTHING is more relevant in this particular forum.

Governor warms up to Hollywood

SANTA FE, N.M. — Gov. Susana Martinez is striking a kinder, gentler tone when it comes to the rebate program for movies and television shows filmed in New Mexico.

Given the state’s improved finances, Martinez said she might be willing to consider pumping more money into the program to make it more enticing to producers.

I have not read the book but it is kind of like a grown up version of the first series.

One of the cast was distraught and went to a gun store to purchase a hand gun. The salesman listens to the character say how he things people are out to get him. Salesman sympathizes with him and says he NEEDS to protect himself and gives him a discount if he buys the gun. Hummmm. distraught and buying a gun? Not a good combo and props to the CW for airing the segment..
