Conflict fatigue in the Trump Era.

My wife and I used to enjoy a number of shows that were pretty violent, with lots of conflict, and even some soul-crushing pessimism. "The Boys" is a good example. There are a few others.

But we just can't get ourselves to start watching again.

"The Boys" is well into its second season, and we haven't cracked an episode yet.

We checked out of "Utopia" after only an episode and a half. Just too damned violent and pointlessly sick.

We are re-binging "The Great British Baking Show" right now.

It's about all we can stand on TV right now.

Waiting for this ugly Saison d'Enfer in America to be over...

I love seeing the unexpected guest stars in old western movies and tv series--well before they were anybody, but most of all, I love the escapist scenery and period history (obviously more so from some than others).

The only dystopian "realism" I need comes from the news every damned day.

to get back to working on my, as yet unpublished, mystery series featuring a management consultant in Portland, Oregon who encounters murder and mayhem in the workplace. The pandemic along with the nightly protests and riots in my sleuth’s neighborhood pose both difficulties and creative opportunities for future installments, and I’m starting to get some ideas, but, like you, I am currently on overload with dark subject matter.
As for ever getting up the nerve to send something to an agent, for now creative writing is simply a cheap hobby - much cheaper than knitting.

Oh, and I have hardly been able to watch any non-news shows since the 2016 election.

since GOT ended, could not sit still enough to get into anything long term, but since the election was over my restlessness has subsided.

Watching Man in High Castle right now.

I know I am late to the game on this one but I do not think I could have watched this during trumps reign of error.

And if you are burned out, don't go to The Boys yet, because the allegory for Trump isn't even subtle. For the record, I loved season 2, but you aren't ready for it.

I totally get where you are at.
