Actress Frances Bavier was #BornOnThisDay, Dec. 14, 1902. Known for her role of "Aunt Bee" on The Andy Griffith Show & Mayberry R.F.D. (1960-'70). Aunt Bee logged more Mayberry years (10) than any other character. Passed in 1989 (age 86) of congestive heart failure. #RIP #BOTD

In the movie there is a scene at a boardinghouse breakfast where several residents are listening to the radio news about the man from space.
(I paraphrase from memory, the clip is on YouTube)

"Why doesn't the Government do something?", one asks.
"What can they do, they're people like us?" says another.
"People my foot! They're Democrats (sic)!" is replied.

Anti-Democratic sentiments are deep and old.
BTW, Frances Bavier's character simply wanted the news turned off.
