The Beatles' first appearance on U.S. TV was not "The Ed Sullivan Show"

We're coming up to the anniversary of the Beatles' debut on "The Ed Sullivan Show," which is Feb. 9. But that wasn't the first time U.S. viewers saw them. On Nov. 18, 1963, this was. It was a news report on "The Huntley-Brinkley Show" by NBC's Edwin Newman.

The live 'this is what it sounded like' portion sounds really balanced behind the screams. I am used to hearing their live recorded touring sound really awfully balanced - well played just not very good sound conditions. They were so good!

I am sure the video portion didn't survive because the audio was easier (smaller) to store. I am sure there are numerous news gems those tasked with digitizing all of this stuff come across frequently.
